A tube-like organ that connects small intestines at one end and anus at the other end is the colon. The main purpose of colon is to remove water, some nutrients and electrolytes from the partially digested foods. The cancer that starts in the colon or rectum is colon cancer or colorectal cancer. From the initial benign growths or polyps, developing into cancerous growth would occur over a period of time. Person with colon cancer would show few symptoms like frequent diarrhoea or constipation, rectal bleeding, pain in stomach etc.

It is worthy to note that consuming foods rich in fibres would help us to avoid or lower the risk of colon cancer. Point is that fibre has anti-inflammatory properties and intake of fibres would lower the inflammation and reduce the chances of colon cancer.

It must be taken into account that foods like whole wheat, oats, barley etc are full of fibres. It is necessary to eat whole grain foods rather than refined foods.

Fruits intake:

Fruits that are rich in fibres are apples, bananas, pears, mangoes etc. To get full fibre content, it is necessary to eat whole fruits and not fruit juices.
